Homes will once again be repeated Sunday afternoon, December 6th from 1-4 p.m.

4:00 p.m., O'Neal Plaza Downtown Douglasville. This holiday season treat
yourself or your entire family to a holiday event in historic downtown
Douglasville. Now in its ninth year, the Douglasville Old Fashioned Holidays
event will culminate with the annual Tour of Homes in the Citys downtown
historic district. Saturday, December 5, 2009 will kick off the weekend with
the arrival of Santa at 4:00 p.m. on ONeal Plaza and children are invited to
take a free picture with him. Plaza activities will also include festive vendor
booths, food, entertainment, and a free childrens craft project. Join the Mayor
at 6:00 p.m. for the lighting of the unique tree atop the ONeal Plaza fountain.
The Tour of Homes will then begin at 6:30 p.m. Food, vendors, and entertainment

December 3, 2009 - Grand Opening Of New Fire Training Complex and Rookie
Graduation
6 - 8 p.m., Wortham Road. The new Douglas County Fire Training Complex will open
on Thursday, December 3rd, 2009, with the graduation of its 2009 rookie
firefighter class at the Complex from 6 - 8 p.m. The Public is invited to
attend the graduation and tour the new Complex. The Fire Training Complex
consists of a four-story training tower, a 2-story burn building, a confidence
trailer, four live burn props, classroom and other related facilities. The
Complex was paid for with a one-cent special purpose local option sales tax.
The Complex will allow Douglas County firefighters to receive live fire and
other specialized training in controlled settings to gain the experience they
need to meet almost any emergency fire and rescue need. The 2009 rookie
firefighter class will graduate on December 3rd at the Fire Training Complex.
These individuals were required to complete certification of State of Georgia
Firefighter I and Firefighter II requirements involving 240 hours of classroom
and skills instruction, 16 hours of the GEMA Vehicle Extraction Course, and 40
hours of Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and a written and skills
test. The skills portion of the course involved live burn training on the four
exterior props and in five live structural burns in the burn building. Every
rookie received a passing score on the written and skills testing. The ten
graduates are Matthew Allen, Robert Baker, Jean Baca Balderas, Derek Cogland,
William Damroze, Paul Holmes, Joann Kuerner, Shawn Prewett, Tracy Peringer, and
Jamal Wilson. The Open House and Rookie Graduation is from 6 - 8 p.m. and the
Public will be able to watch live burns on the four outside props and be able
to tour the four-story training tower. Firefighters will be on hand to give
tours and information on the new facility. A formal dedication of the Fire
Training Complex will be held in the Spring. The Fire Training Complex is
located on Wortham Road off Cedar Mountain Road northwest of Douglasville, and

Family Christmas Concert
The West Atlanta / Douglas Choral Society (WADCS), Inc., will present its 23rd
traditional A Family Christmas Concert for the community on Tuesday, December
1, 2009, 8:00 p.m. (7:45 p.m. preconcert music), at The Douglas County High
School Performing Arts Hall (Mashburn Theater) as a wonderful way to start this
special season. The performance will be led by Artistic Director/Conductor
Waverly Rainey and accompanied by pianist/organist William Callaway. Come and
join in the joy and spirit of seasonal music and good cheer. This year's
seasonal concerts celebrates and affirms both their third decade and 23rd
concert season of successful programming and community service as the longest
and largest serving chorale in the area representing Douglas County and West
Atlanta. The concerts generally include a variety of audience favorites
consisting of sacred/secular seasonal choral and instrumental repertoire
(Classical, contemporary, Broadway musical, and spiritual choral anthems to
solos, etc.). This concert will be a wonderful way to celebrate this special
season! Secure your tickets early (seating limited) for the Douglasville
Concert ($10). Tickets may be obtained easily through our
