2010 Walk of Honor Ceremony To Be Held Tuesday

10/15/10 - In front of the Courthouse is an area that was designated as the “Court of Honor” when the Courthouse was dedicated in May 1998. It is the bricked area that extends from the front steps of the Courthouse out to the Eternal Flame. The word “Honor” is engraved over the front door of the Courthouse. There are two brick pathways that lead from the Eternal Flame back towards the Courthouse. One of the brick walkways is designated as the “Walk of Honor” and it contains engraved bricks that honor Douglas County citizens who risked or lost their lives trying to save those of others.

The other brick walkway is designated as the “Pathway of Service" and it contains engraved bricks that honor Douglas County citizens who have dedicated their lives to public service. Inclusion in the Walk of Honor or Pathway of Service is the highest honor that can be bestowed by the County on a citizen. Every other year, we host a ceremony to place engraved bricks in these two walkways. Nominations are received from the Public during the two-year period between ceremonies. The Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, October 19th, in Citizens Hall of the Douglas County Courthouse. It is open to the Public with free admission.

Douglas County Corner Calls For School Bus Restraints

10/15/10 - Following the deadly accident that claimed the life of a high school senior in Carroll County last week, Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel is calling on state lawmakers to pass a bill requiring all school buses in Georgia to be equipped with safety belts. If the bill passes, Douglas County would be required to foot just over $700 thousand to retrofit its buses. Gwinnett, the state's largest school district, would have to find more than $5.5 million in its budget for the safety belts. Daniel feels that the Temple high school student killed in last week's accident would be alive today had the bus been properly equipped.
